[ canon point ] Post-death
[ age ] 12
[ personality ] Friendly and polite, Ion is a very well-mannered little boy, his actions befitting his station as a religious leader, though he may seem somewhat distant at times. This is the appearance he maintains in front of the general populace; ever-smiling, ever-kind, their all-knowing leader and loving guide. His true self, though, is a much more cold and methodical person than the people around him are led to believe. Ion cares nothing for the well-being of himself or the people around him. He scorns anyone who would rather be a follower than think for themselves, mentally labeling them as trash, though he cannot treat them as such due to his position. He smiles instead, pretending he cares, and has grown so incredibly used to hiding his emotions behind a distant smile that it seems to have become second nature to him.
Despite the facades, there's actually a soft side to Ion's personality. He's a lonely person, though he didn't realize it himself until his death. Companionship is a comfort, and while he doesn't always acknowledge it, he does appreciate having someone by his side. He has an incredibly high defensive instinct; his own life may not be worth bothering for, but he will mercilessly slaughter those who threaten the lives dearest to him. Arietta is a good example of this, as he once completely obliterated a small group of men who'd injured her in their attack on him.
Ion is very intelligent, having been studying since birth, but he's also somewhat naive. Having been confined to Fon Master duties since he could remember, he doesn't have very much experience outside of that field; he's never played games, read stories, had fun, gone exploring. Just gone to important functions and spoken to the masses. Of course this also means he has no fear of strangers or speaking in front of large groups; he's used to them. But what little he knows of freedom and fun and things like that was learned from his pet liger girl, and so he's still somewhat clueless as to what it is to be a child his age.
[ history ] Ion was, essentially, the ruler of the entire world of Auldrant. Holding the absolute highest rank in the only church on the planet, the order of Lorelei, neither of the two kingdoms would ever go against his words, as he was the one who read their future in the Score. And yet, he was as much a prisoner of the Score as everyone else in the world. At birth, he had his birth score read, as is customary, and it was foretold that he would become Fon Master. He was immediately shipped off to Daath to be trained in this capacity, and so never knew the love of a family, or remembered his own parents at all. During this training, he learned that he was also foretold to die at the tender age of twelve. This was obviously a very hard fact to take in, and he became a very cold and rational child because of it.
It was during this time that Commandant Van Grants decided to speak to him. With his idealistic talk of destroying the Score, he soon gained Ion's trust, and the two started a plan to wipe out all mankind, replacing them with replicas. Without the original people, there would be no one to follow the Score, and so the world could essentially start anew. Of course, Ion himself would be dead before any of this ever happened, but the idea was enough to warrant his willing cooperation. With help, and after a few failed tries, a replica Ion was created, who would serve as a puppet figurehead while Van ruled from the shadows.
Sometime between teaming up with Van and the later creation of his replicas, Ion also adopted Arietta, a wild girl raised by ligers. He raised her as a pet, gave her the title of Fon Master Guardian, and passed her on to Van upon his death, half a year after the seventh Ion replica was created.
[ appearance ] Here.
[ abilities ] As the Fon Master of the Order of Lorelei, Ion has the ability to use Daathic fonic artes. Out of the skills included in that category, the only ones useable outside of his own home planet would be curse slots and a spell called Akashic Torment. He also knows some basic elemental spells.
A curse slot is, to put it simply, a mark engraved anywhere on the body by the caster which, when activated, causes the victim to attack the caster's chosen target. It only works if the person affected already has a desire to kill that target, somewhere deep down inside. It's also impossible to remove by anyone who cannot use Daathic artes. This arte may prove somewhat unnecessary though, so he most likely won't use it in the game.
Akashic Torment is a more dangerous skill, then, in that it summons energy to severely injure anyone within range of the caster, though it seems Ion can also concentrate that energy on a single victim when desired.
Aside from that, Ion is physically not much of a fighter. He's in very good physical shape for a boy who's been terminally ill for so many years, and is canonly shown to punch his first replica through the chest before destroying it with a daathic arte, but he doesn't have any actual fighting skills.

[ first person ] So this mirror is for communication, is it? What a novel idea. [Despite the supposed interest, though, he seems rather preoccupied with his thoughts. He taps his fingers on the looking glass, eyes focused on some unknown point in the distance.]
...So upon dying, I find myself in a battle to stay alive. Supposedly. [A quiet chuckle, and a not-entirely amused smile.] How ironic.
[He shakes his head, his smile looking a little more...friendly, and focuses on the looking glass again.] Anyway. My name is Ion. It's a pleasure to meet you, fellow victims of Wonderland. I'm sure we'll all get along quite well together.
[ third person ] He was alive. Alive, and lost in some strange fantasy world. It was a very strange situation. The welcome party had been disappointing though, and so as he sat on the grass outside the tower, he wondered exactly what sort of situation he'd gotten into.
There were buildings in the distance. Villages. Perhaps he'd find himself living in one. The idea of living a commoner's life was strangely appealing; he'd never stayed anywhere quite so simple before. Ah, but should he be resigning himself to this land so easily? It wasn't as if he had anywhere else to go. He was dead in his own world, wasn't he? Dead and gone. That's what they expected. It had been told in the Score, after all.
There was nowhere else to go.
Ion smiled to himself. Nothing had been explained but that he was to fight in a war. He was in a world where to know was unimportant. Perhaps this place suited him, in that respect. Futures unknown, and death a promised uncertainty. He could truly live here, free of destiny and fate. Who knew when he would die? Not I.
With that cheerfully morbid thought embedded in his mind, Ion stood up and headed for the nearest village.
