Suikogaiden 2 Chapter 1 - The Champion

おれたちは最小限の手はずを打ち合わせ、広場に着いた時には、すでに『炎の運び手』は、その中央に陣取っていた。
We quickly threw a plan together, and when we arrived at the square, the "Flame Champions" had set up camp in the center.

ナッシュ
「この様子だと、盗賊たちに貢ぎ物をさしだすことで話がついてるってのは本当らしいな。」
Nash
"Looking at this, I guess that talk about giving tribute to the robbers was true."

村人の間をぬって、クラドが首領の前に出た。彼の後には、貢ぎ物らしき物品を携えた者が数人続いている。クラドは荷物を地面に下ろさせると、自分はその場に平伏した。
Wending his way through the crowd of villagers, Clado appeared before the robber chief. Behind him, several people came carrying the tribute in their hands. Having laid the goods on the ground, Clado prostrated himself there.



クラド
「・・・・・・『炎の英雄』さま、わしらミリトの村の者、謹んであなたに従います。どうか、今後はこの村にご加護を・・・・」
Clado
"......Lord "Flame Champion", we people of the village of Milit, humbly abide by your rules. Please give this village your divine protection from now on...."



首領
「貢ぎ物はこれだけか？フン、ずいぶんとシケた村だな。」
Leader
"This is all the tribute you have? Hmph, what a horribly poor village."

ロウエン
「ちぇっ！なーに偉そうに！！」
Lo Wen
"Tch-! What's he lookin' so proud of himself for!!"

ナッシュ
「シッ！聞こえるぞ！！それよりも、みんな、持ち場についてくれ。タイミングを計って合図を出す。そうしたら、作戦開始だ。」
Nash
"Sshh! They'll hear you!! Aside from that, everybody, take your places. I'll make a sign when it's time. If we're doing this, we've got to start following the strategy."

みんなは群衆の中に紛れて消えた。おれはタイミングを見計らいながら、首領とクラドの会話に聞き耳を立てた。
Everyone slipped into the crowd and disappeared. As I watched for the right timing, I listened closely to the leader and Clado's conversation.

首領
「ご苦労であった。では、貢ぎ物はいただいて行くぞ。」
Leader
"You've gone through a lot of trouble. I'll be taking this tribute, then."

首領は部下に合図し、貢ぎ物を運ばせる。そろそろ頃合いか・・・・・おれは掌に、火炎弾を忍ばせた。広場の真中で小さな爆発を起こす。それがみんなへの合図にもなっている。
The leader signaled a subordinate, who carried the tribute off. Any time now.....I hid a ball of flame in the palm of my hand. It would set off a small explosion in the middle of the square. That was going to be the signal to the others.



クラド
「な、何をなさいます！？」
Clado
"W-what is the meaning of this!?"

悲痛な叫びに顔を上げると、盗賊が剣を抜き、クラドを捕らえていた。
Clado raised his head with a bitter shout as the bandits drew their swords, seizing him.



首領
「貢ぎ物はいただいたしな、都合がいいことに、村人も集まっている。そろそろ、本題に入らせてもらうさ。『蹄と草笛の宴』に、交易品が集まることは承知のこと。交易品は全ていただいて行くぞ！！！」
Leader
"We've received our tribute, and conveniently, the villagers are all gathered here too. Now let's cut to the chase. You must be aware that trade goods gather at your Hoof and Reed Pipe festival. I'll be taking all those trade goods!!!"

やはり、ギジムの言うとおりだったか。首領が剣に手をかける。クラドを斬るつもりだ！！
Of course, it's just as Gijimu said. The leader places a hand on his sword. He's planning to kill Clado!!

ナッシュ
「くそ！！間に合え！！！」
Nash
"Shit!! It's time!!!"



投げつけた火炎弾は、首領の剣で叩き落とされてしまったが、落ちた拍子に爆発し、小さな火柱と白い煙を辺りにふりまいた。恐怖にかたまっていた村人たちはその音におどろき、クモの子を散らすように広場から逃げ始めた。
The fireball I threw was knocked down by the leader's sword, but at the moment it fell, small columns of fire and white smoke spread around the area. The villagers, huddled in panic, were surprised at the sound, and scattered from the square like baby spiders.

村人たちの誘導は、アイリたちにまかせてある。あとは、おれたちの出番だ。
Leaving the villagers is left to Eilie's team. Next, it's our turn.

首領
「きさま・・・・・さっきの・・・よく生きていたものだな。」
Leader
"You.....from before...you did well to survive."

ナッシュ
「わりと悪運は強いようでね。それよりも、あんたは自分の命の心配をしな。ニセ『炎の英雄』さんよ！！」
Nash
"Looks like your bad luck's worse than mine. You should probably be worrying about your own life, though. Mister Fake Flame Champion!!"

首領
「な、なんだと・・・・・」
Leader
"W-what are you....."

ナッシュ
「５０年以上昔の人間が生きているって言うのか？おとぎ話だぜ。」
Nash
"You mean that talk about somebody still living after over 50 years? That's a fairy tale."

首領
「ふふ、馬鹿め！！おれには、『真の火の紋章』が宿っているのだ。『真なる２７の紋章』を持つ者には、不老の力が与えられるのだぞ！！」
Leader
"Fufu, you fool!! The True Fire Rune dwells within me. Those who wield the 27 True Runes are bestowed with the power of everlasting youth!!"



ギジム
「さっきの火柱が、『真なる２７の紋章』の力だってぇのか？バカ言っちゃあいけねぇ、てめぇこそ世間知らずってもんだぜぇ！！」
Gijimu
"Were those fire pillars from earlier the power of the 27 True Runes then? Stop sayin' stupid things like that, you don't know much about the world do you, you dumb bastard!!"



マイクロトフ
「その通り、先ほどの魔法などおれの見たあの禍々しい力にくらべたら、児戯にも等しいこと！！」
Miklotov
"That's right, if I compare that magic from earlier with the sinister power I've seen before, this is equivalent to mere child's play!!"



首領
「”青騎士”ふぜいが、生意気な！！かかれ！！！！！！」
Leader
"How cheeky, taking on the appearance of a Blue Knight!! Take this!!!!!!"

盗賊たちが馬に鞭を当ておそいかかって来た。おれたちは、打ち合わせ通り背をむけて四方へ走り始めた。
The robbers lashed at their horses and came rushing towards us. Following our plan, we turned our backs to them and ran in opposite directions.



盗賊
「待て！逃げるのか！！」
Robbers
"Wait! You tryin' to run away!!"



盗賊の攻撃をかわしながら通りを走り続ける。やがて焼け跡を通り過ぎ、焼け残った建物が並ぶ細い通りに入った。
We continued running as the robbers shouted after us. Before long we'd run past the fire-devastated area, and onto a narrow street of clean buildings.

ナッシュ
「コウユウ！来たぞ！！」
Nash
"Koyu! They're here!!"

コウユウ
「よっしゃぁ！！」
Koyu
"Awriight!!"



半壊した建物の上から、コウユウの声が降って来る。
Koyu's voice came down from atop a partially destroyed building.

コウユウ
「ほらよっと、これでもくらいな！！！」
Koyu
"Hey you guys, how 'bout you try this on for size!!!"

コウユウが綱をひくと、積み上げておいた瓦礫の山が崩れて来た。
Koyu then pulled a rope, causing a mountainous heap of rubble to come crumbling down.



盗賊
「このガキャァ！！」
Robbers
"You braaaat!!"



馬を封じられた盗賊たちは、走ってコウユウを追いかけるが、すばしっこく建物の中に消えて行き、つかまえるのは無理だった。
With the path blocked to their horses, the robbers chased Koyu on foot, but he quickly disappeared among the buildings and made catching him impossible.

ナッシュ
「さーて、残ったやつはおれが相手だぜ。」
Nash
"Now then, those guys who're left will be my opponents.
------
ナッシュ
「こっちはだいたいかたづいたぞ。」
Nash
"This should pretty much do it."



コウユウ
「こっちもばっちり！！ギジムのアニキのところへ、行きやしょう。」
Koyu
"Everything's good on my end too!! Let's go to where Big Bro Gijimu is."



ギジム
「ぐぉぉぉぉぉぉぉぉっ！！！てめえら、灯竜山のギジムを知らねぇか？こっから先は通さねぇぜ！！！」
Gijimu
"Guooooooohh!!! You bastards, don'tcha know Gijimu of the Lampdragon Bandits? From here on out you're not gettin' past me!!!"

ギジムは建物の扉の前に立ちはだかって、盗賊たちの攻撃に耐えていた。
Gijimu was blocking the way to the door of a building, fending off the robbers' attacks.

コウユウ
「ア、アニキ！！！？？？」
Koyu
"B-Bro!!!???"

ナッシュ
「分断作戦がうまくいかなかったのか！？なら・・・・・」
Nash
"Don't tell me splitting up was a bad plan after all!? In that case....."

おれは、すかさず煙幕弾を投げつけた。
I threw a smokebomb without a moment's delay.

盗賊
「うわっ！！！」
Robber
"Uwah!!!"

盗賊
「なんだこりゃ！？」
Robber
"The hell's this!?"

盗賊
「野郎！！どこに逃げやがった！！！！！」
Robber
"You sneak!! Where'd you run off to!!!!!"

盗賊たちがひるんだすきに、ギジムと合流する。
While the robbers were stumbling around, we joined up with Gijimu.



コウユウ
「アニキ！！！！大丈夫ですかい！！アニキ！！」
Koyu
"Bro!!!! Are you okay!! Bro!!"



ギジム
「あぁ・・・・なんとかな・・・・・」
Gijimu
"Yeah....somehow....."

ナッシュ
「ロウエンはどうした？あのキップの良い姉さんは。」
Nash
"What about Lo Wen? That spiritedly cheerful lady."

ギジム
「しくじっちまった。ロウエンがタンカを切ったところに、矢が飛んで来て。なんとか、この建物にかくまってこいつらの相手をしていたが・・・・・・」
Gijimu
"We screwed up. Lo Wen was shoutin' all mad-like when an arrow came flyin' straight at 'er. Then somehow I ended up bein' an opponent for these guys who were hidin' in this building......"



煙幕が消え始めて、盗賊たちの輪がせばまって来る。ざっと見たところでも１５人ほどはいるな。おれとコウユウと手負いのギジムじゃちょっと骨がおれるな・・・・
As the smokescreen begins to disappear, the ring of bandits closes in on us. Looks like there's about 15 of them at a glance. With just me and Koyu and an injured Gijimu this might get a little tough....

ロウエンを見捨てて逃げるわけにもいかないだろう。それに、そろそろ一人でまかせたマイクロトフの方が心配だ・・・・
We probably can't just abandon Lo Wen and run. On top of that, I'm worried about leaving things to Miklotov by himself....




？？？？
「ふむ、ゼクセンへ戻る前に妻と息子に土産でもと思ってよったんだが、宴はもう終わったのか？」
????
"Hmph, I was thinking of getting souvenirs for my wife and son before going back to Zexen, but is the feast already over?"

ナッシュ
「だ、誰だ？」
Nash
"W-who are you?"



ギルバート
「なーーに、しがない傭兵よ。ん？ギジムにコウユウじゃないか。この盗賊たちはおまえらの仲間か？それなら、すまんことをしたな。かかって来たんで、何人か斬ってしまったが。」
Gilbert
"Nobody at all, I'm just a humble mercenary. Hm? If it isn't Gijimu and Koyu. Are these robbers your friends? If that's the case, then sorry. Some of them came at me, so I ended up killing them."



コウユウ
「ギルバートのおっさん！！！」
Koyu
"It's Ol' Gilbert!!!"

ナッシュ
「なんだよ、また知り合いか？」
Nash
"What the hell, another acquaintance?"

コウユウ
「こいつらは、おれたちの仲間なんかじゃねぇよ！！」
Koyu
"These guys aren't anythin' like our friends!!"

ギルバート
「ふむ、そうみたいだな。なら、敵か。戦いは、もうやめる気でいたんだが、最後にひとつ力添えでもするか。」
Gilbert
"Hmph, it sure seems that way. So they're enemies, then. I've been in the mood to quit fighting, but I suppose I'll be lending a hand one last time."



ギジム
「へっ、無理すんなギルバートのおっさん。報酬も出ないぜ。」
Gijimu
"Heh, don't overdo it Gilbert y'old geezer. We're not givin' out any rewards."

ギルバート
「なに、結構だ。先の戦いでいくらか学んだこともあってな。それに、こいつらはずいぶんと懐があったかそうだ。」
Gilbert
"What, I've got no problem with that. I got to to learn a few things at the last battle too. Besides, these guys seem like they might be really loaded."

ナッシュ
「そう言うことなら、たのむ。おれは、マイクロトフの方へ行く。」
Nash
"If you say it that way, then we're counting on you. I'm heading over to Miklotov's side."



マイクロトフ
「はぁはぁ・・・・次は誰だ！！！！」
Miklotov
"Hah haa....who's next!!!!"

ナッシュ
「マイクロトフ！！」
Nash
"Miklotov!!"



マイクロトフ
「ナッシュ殿！！」
Miklotov
"Lord Nash!!"

ナッシュ
「すまん、ギジムのところで手間取った。」
Nash
"Sorry, I had some unexpected difficulties over at Gijimu's place."



その時、物陰に潜んでいた盗賊がマイクロトフの一瞬のすきを見逃さずに斬りかかって来た。
Just then, in that moment's distraction, a robber who'd been hiding under cover came running at Miklotov with a sword.

マイクロトフ
「くっ！！！！」
Miklotov
"Kh-!!!!"



カミュー
「いつも、わたしに”油断するな”と言うくせに、困ったやつだ。」
Camus
"You're a troublesome fellow, despite always telling me not to let my guard down."



マイクロトフ
「カミュー！おまえ・・・・・・・・」
Miklotov
"Camus! You........"



カミュー
「レディの看病でベットに横たわっているのも悪くはないが、外が、こううるさくては、寝てもいられないさ。」
Camus
"Lying down and being nursed to health by a lady isn't so bad, but when it's this noisy outside, it's rather hard to get to sleep."



マイクロトフ
「ふぅ・・・・・・・いつもおれに”強情な奴だ”などと言うくせに・・・・」
Miklotov
"Heh.......Even though you're always calling me a stubborn guy...."

カミュー
「それはいけないな。おまえのが少しうつったか？」
Camus
"I'm hopeless. Have you managed to change much?"

マイクロトフ
「ナッシュ殿・・・・・」
Miklotov
"Lord Nash....."

ナッシュ
「仕方ないな。今さら戻れと言うわけにもいくまい。」
Nash
"I guess there's no helping it. I can't exactly tell you to go back now."
