◉ Parents slaughtered before his eyes
Caim was born into the royal family of the small country of Caerleon. His father, King Gaap was loved by the people for his open nature; but when Caim was 18, tragedy occurred. In the midst of their pleasant harmony, the black dragon attacked the Gaap family. Caim's parents were slaughtered before his eyes. Having lost their exalted king, Caerleon could no longer keep up the appearance of a nation, and it was not long before the country collapsed.

貴族イブリスの息子、イウヴァルトとは親友であると同時に剣術のライバルとして、家族ぐるみの付き合いをするほどの仲だった。 しかし、イウヴァルトと妹フリアエが恋に落ち、許嫁の身となった後に起きたある事件以降、３人の関係がギクシャクし始める。 内に秘めたフリアエの心、その心の動きに苦悩するイウヴァルト。 ３人が紡いでいた真っ白な糸がねじ曲がり、そして、血に染まる。

Inuart, son of a noble named Ibris, as both a close friend and a rival in fencing, was closely associated with the family. However, Inuart and his sister Furiae fell in love, and after the two became engaged, the relationship between the three began to sour. Hidden within Furiae's heart, her changing feelings pained Inuart. The pure white thread the three had spun now twisted, would soon be dyed in blood.

父ガアプは、歴代の王の中でも突出した剣の達人として知られていた。 元々剣に非凡な才があったカイムも、そんな父の指導の下、メキメキ剣術の技量を身に付ける。 だが、父の死後、フリアエに”オシルシ”が出て孤独の身となったカイムの剣には、どす黒い邪の業が宿ってしまったようである。 その戦いぶりは苛烈で、容赦なく相手を殺戮するさまはまさに戦いの鬼。 血に染まった剣に笑みを映す。
◉ Gaining an unparalleled sword technique
Caim's father, Gaap, was known as one of a long line of sword masters descended from the royal family. Having shown extraordinary ability with the sword at a young age, he trained under his father's guidance, and quickly mastered his swordsmanship abilities. But, after his father's death and the "mark"'s appearance on Furiae, for the now isolated Caim, it was as if some dark and evil karma had lodged itself in his sword. With that strict fighting style, relentlessly slaughtering his opponents, he was exactly like a demon of battle. His smile was reflected on the surface of the bloody sword.

――どこで歯車が狂い始めたのか......？
--When did the gears first deviate from their course......?
カイムは、そう自問せずにいられない。 厳格ながらも家族思いの父ガアプと優しい母、そして可憐で美しい妹フリアエに囲まれて、満ち足りた生活を送っていたあの頃―――。 幼なじみにして剣術のライバルでもあるイウヴァルトとは、いずれ義理の兄弟になる間柄だった。 ゆくゆくは父の後を継いでカールレオン国を治め、イウヴァルトを参謀に―――そんな夢想をしたこともあった。
It was not something Caim could ask himself. Surrounded by his strict yet caring father, his kind mother, and his sweet and lovely younger sister, he lead a happy life in those days. His childhood friend and swordfighting rival, Inuart, eventually became his brother-in-law. Someday he would succeed his father in governance of the kingdom of Caerleon, and he'd appoint Inuart onto his staff--he held dreams such as this.
しかし、今のカイムには、何もない。
However, for the Caim of today, there is nothing.
今にして思えば、あの忌まわしい惨劇の前日の出来事が、その予兆だったのかもしれない。 いつもどおり剣の稽古をしていたときに、手元を滑らせたイウヴァルトが誤ってカイムを傷つけてしまったのだ。 幸い傷は浅く、カイムは稽古熱心な友人を笑って許すつもりだっだ。
In retrospect, the incident that occurred the day before that terrible tragedy could very well have been an omen. During their usual sword practice, Inuart accidentally managed to injure Caim. Fortunately it was a shallow wound, and Caim laughed it off as his friend's enthusiasm for their training.
しかし、妹フリアエはそうではなかった。 驚くほどの剣幕でイウヴァルトをなじり、気圧されたイウヴァルトは、気まずそうな表情を浮かべて、その場を立ち去ってしまった。 気持ちは嬉しいが、フリアエの兄思いにも困ったものだ。 まあ, あいつには後目改めて話せばいい―――。 そう思ったカイムは、心配のあまり今にも泣き出しそうな妹と共に城へと足を向ける。 しかし、イウヴァルトが去り際に見せた複雑な瞳の色にどんな想いが隠されていたのか、このときのカイムには知る由もなかった。
However, Furiae did not. She scolded Inuart with a surprisingly threatening attitude, and the defeated Inuart, with an unpleasant look on his face, took his leave of the place. Although glad, Furiae's brother was inwardly troubled. Well, maybe I should talk with her about it later-- So thinking, Caim led his younger sister - who was so worried it seemed she would burst into tears any moment - back into the castle. However, the complex look he'd seen in Inuart's eyes as he left, was something that the Caim of this moment had no reason to understand.
そして翌日、惨劇は起こった。
And the next day, the tragedy occurred.
その光景は、どんなことがあっても決して忘れることはないだろう。 突如として城を襲ったブラックドラゴンの醜い牙が父の身体をゆっくりと噛み砕き、巨大な爪は、華奢な母の身体をあっさりと貫いた―――。 すべては、あっという間の出来事だった。 目的を果たしたドラゴンは、カイムたちに一瞥をくれると、悠々とその場から飛び去った。
That spectacle was something he would probably never be able to forget. His father's body being slowly crunched between the ugly teeth of the black dragon that had suddenly attacked the castle, his mother's body easily pierced by its gigantic claws-- All of this happened in the blink of an eye. Having accomplished its goal, the black dragon glanced at Caim and his sister, before calmly flying away from that place.
カイムは、吠えた。 あらん限りの声を張り上げて吠え続けた。 どれくらいの間そうしていたのかは分からない。 ふと我に帰ると、カイムの隣には、驚きと絶望のあまり、悲鳴をあげることも泣くことも忘れて惚けたように立ちつくすフリアエがいた。 カイムは、その身体を抱きしめた。 そして、フリアエがまるで痙攣するかのように震えていることに気付き、さらにきつく抱きしめた―――。
Caim howled. And he continued to raise his voice as he howled to the point his lungs would surely give out. How long he stayed like this is unknown. Suddenly coming back to himself, Caim saw by his side, overwhelmed with surprise and despair, Furiae was standing in a daze, having forgotten how to scream or to cry. Caim pulled her into an embrace. He noticed then that Furiae was trembling all over, and hugged her even tighter--
あれから６年の歳月が流れた。 家族も、友も、故郷も、すでにない。 カイムにあるのは、戦いの日々だけだ。 ただひたすら敵を、斬る。 戦いの興奮は、現実を忘れさせてくれる。 もはや、「復讐」はカイムにとって敵を殺すための建前になっていた。 体中に流れる怒り。 そして、いつも心は空虚だった。
Six years have passed since then. Family, friends, and home, no longer exist. Caim has nothing now but daily combat. With unaffected determination, he kills his opponents. The thrill of battle helps him forget reality. Now, "revenge" has for Caim become an excuse with which to kill his opponents. Anger flows throw his body. And always, his heart is empty as the void.
