Suikogaiden 2 Chapter 3 - Stray Dragon

いや、気のせいじゃない。確かに茂みの向こうから人の気配を感じる。おれは、しばし思案した後、茂みに分け入る決意をした。情けない話だが、干し肉の一片でもいいから分けてもらおうと思ったからだ。
No, it's not just my imagination. I can tell there's someone on the other side of those bushes. After thinking it over a little while, I decide to force my way through. It's embarrassing to say, but the thought of getting even a single piece of jerky was good enough to get me moving.



思った通り、雑木林を抜けると街道と平行する形で細い道が通っていた。おれは慎重に木の陰から声の方をうかがってみる。
As I thought, the woods open up to a narrow road that runs parallel to the main highway. I carefully hide myself in the shade of a tree to watch for the source of the voices.



メグ
「だからね、ジュッポおじさんは絶対『一つの神殿』に行ったと思うんだ。おじさんは、勉強好きだからね。」
Meg
"So, I think Uncle Juppo must’ve gone to the One Temple. ‘Cuz he really loves studying, you know?"

ミリー
「つまりぃ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・あっちへいくってことだねぇ。」
Millie
“So in other words.................that's where we're going, right?"

メグ
「違うって！だから、道に迷ってるのよ、わたしたち。わかってる？」
Meg
"No! I just told you, we're both lost. Get it?"

ミリー
「え、まよってないよぉ。ミリーはボナパルトといっしょだからだいじょうぶだよぉ。」
Millie
"Oh, we're not lost. As long as Millie and Bonaparte are together we'll be perfectly fine."

メグ
「そうじゃないでしょう、もう・・・・・・このままじゃ、いつまでたっても先へ進めないわ。」
Meg
“Ooh, that’s not what I meant at all......But in any case, we can’t just keep walking on like this forever!”

よくよく見ると、随分と山道には不似合いな格好をした二人だな。旅商人が、こんな裏道をわざわざ行くはずはないから、旅芸人の二人組なのだろうか？それにしても・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・なんだか嫌な予感がするんだが、どうするか・・・・・
Looking closely, I see two girls who seem utterly out of place with the mountain road they're on. If they're using a back road like this, they couldn't be peddlers, so maybe they're a pair of traveling entertainers or something? At any rate................Somehow I've got a bad feeling about this, so what should I do.....

緊張している気配も無いし、ザジの刺客と言うことではないだろう。おれは茂みから姿を現して、リーダーシップを握っていそうな緑の服の少女に話しかけた。
I can't sense even a hint of tension about them, so I can say they're probably not assassins on Zaj's orders. The girl in the green looks like the leader of the two, so I make my way towards her as I come out of the bushes.

ナッシュ
「えーと、ちょっといいかな？」
Nash
"Umm, could you spare a minute of your time?"



メグ
「だ、誰？？」
Meg
"W-who are you??"



ミリー
「さんぞくさん？」
Millie
"A bandit?"

ナッシュ
「お、おれが？そんな悪者に見えるか？」
Nash
"M-me? Do I really look that bad?"

メグ
「わからないわ。やさしそうに近づいて後で、ブスリって・・・・」
Meg
"I don't know. You let a nice-looking guy get close, and shunk...."

ナッシュ
「やめろよ、縁起でもない。」
Nash
"Don't say that, it's bad luck!"

「ピピ。タイオンちぇっく、シンオンちぇっく、ダイジョウブ、ウソハツイテマセン。」
Gadget
"BEEP. TEMPERATURE CHECK, HONESTY CHECK...DO NOT WORRY, THIS MAN IS NOT LYING."

ナッシュ
「なんだぁ？？？タルがしゃべった！いや、その前にタルが歩いた！！」
Nash
"What the-??? That barrel's talking! Wait, it was walking before, too!!"

緊張している気配も無いし、ザジの刺客と言うことではないだろう。おれは茂みから姿を現して、青い服の少女に話しかけ・・・・
I can't sense even a hint of tension about them, so I can say they're probably not assassins on Zaj's orders. As I come out of the woods, I turn to speak to the girl in blue....



ミリー
「きゃーーーーーーーー！！！！！！！！！！」
Millie
Eek--------!!!!!!!!!!



メグ
「え？なに？なに？なに？」
Meg
"Huh? What? What? What?"

ミリー
「ボナパルト！！！！！！！！！！！！！」
Millie
"BONAPARTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!"



ボナパルト
「キュゥイイイイイイイイイ！！！！！！！！」
Bonaparte
"KWEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!"

ミリー
「・・・・だいじょうぶかなぁ？」
Millie
"....Is he okay?"

メグ
「さぁ、どうだろ？でも、あんなところに隠れてたんだから悪いやつかもしれないしね。」
Meg
"I’m not sure... what do you think? But if he was hiding in a place like that, then he must be a bad man, right?"

ミリー
「じゃあ、ミリーまちがってなかったんだね。」
Millie
"Then, Millie wasn't wrong after all."

メグ
「そ・・・・・
それは、どうかなぁ？」
Meg
"W-well, I wonder.....?"



メグ
「あ！目をさました！」
Meg
"Ah! He's waking up!"

ナッシュ
「いちちち・・・・・・・・ん？」
Nash
"Oooouuuch........huh?

メグ
「大丈夫？」
Meg
"Are you okay?"

ナッシュ
「うーーーん・・・・・どうしてこんな・・・・・たしか・・・・・・・・・・！！！そうだ！大丈夫か？さっきのあの化け物は！？」
Nash
"Weeell.....Now that you ask.....I'm pretty sure..........!!! That's right! Are you alright? Wasn't there a monster a little while ago!?"



メグ
「ん？」
Meg
"Hm?"



ミリー
「ばけものぉ？？なにそれぇ？？？？」
Millie
"Monster?? What monster????"

ナッシュ
「見なかったのか？なんだか、でかいナメクジみたいな・・・」
Nash
“You didn’t see it? It looked like some kinda huge slug...”



ミリー
「えーーーーーーー！！！それって、もしかしてボナパルトのことぉ？？？ひっどーーーーい！！！！やっちゃえ！！ボナパルト！！！！」
Millie
"Whaaaaaaat!!! Are you talking about Bonaparte??? That's so meeaaaan!!!! Get 'im!! Bonaparte!!!!"



メグ
「あっ！」
Meg
"Aah!"

緊張している気配も無いし、ザジの刺客と言うことではないだろうが、用心に越したことはないだろう。おれは茂みに身をひそめて気配を断ち、二人が通り過ぎるまで待つことにした。
I can't sense even a hint of tension about them, so I can say they're probably not assassins on Zaj's orders, but it never hurts to be careful. I hide myself in the woods, suppressing any sign of my presence, and wait for the two to pass by.

「ピピ。ソノシゲミノナカニ、ネツゲンハンノウアリ。」

"BEEP. HEAT SOURCE DETECTED IN THE THICKET."



メグ
「え？それって、ひょっとして、熊とか？」
Meg
"Huh? Over there, could it be a bear?"

Gadget
"JUDGING BY SURFACE AREA, THE POTENTIAL OF THAT IS 40 PERCENT."



ミリー
「くまはいやーーーーーっっっ！！！！！！」
Millie
"Eek a beeeeeaaar!!!!!!"



メグ
「えっ？ちょ、ちょっと、落ち着いて・・・・」
Meg
Huuh? W-wait, calm down...."

ミリー
「ボナパルト！！！！！！！！！！！！！」
Millie
"BONAPARTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!"



ボナパルト
「キュゥイイイイイイイイイ！！！！！！！！」
Bonaparte
"KWEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!"

メグ
「・・・・・・もう、やりすぎよ。」
Meg
"......Now, that's just overkill."

ミリー
「でもでもぉ、あんなところにかくれてたんだからわるいやつにきまってるよぉ。」
Millie
"But buut, we'd already decided something bad was hiding in theere."

メグ
「そ・・・・・それは、ちょっと、どうかなぁ・・・・・」
Meg
"W.....well, I wonder....."

「あ！目をさました！」
Meg
"Ah! He's waking up!"

ナッシュ
「いちちち・・・・・・・・ん？」
Nash
"Oooouuuch........huh?

メグ
「大丈夫？」
Meg
"Are you okay?"

ナッシュ
「うーーーん・・・・・どうしてこんな・・・・・たしか・・・・・・・・・・！！！そうだ！突然化け物に！！」
Nash
"Weeell.....Now that you ask.....I'm pretty sure..........!!! That's right! A monster just suddenly showed up!!"



メグ
「化け物？」
Meg
"A monster?"

ナッシュ
「ああ、でかいナメクジみたいな化け物が突然・・・・・」
Nash
"Yeah, this huge slug-like monster suddenly....."



ミリー
「えーーーーーーー！！！それって、もしかしてボナパルトのことぉ？？？ひっどーーーーい！！！！やっぱり、わるものにけってい！！やっちゃえ！！ボナパルト！！！！」
Millie
"Whaaaaaat!!! Are you talking about Bonapaarte??? That's so meeeaaan!!!! I was right, you're a bad man after all!! Get 'im!! Bonaparte!!!!"



メグ
「また？・・・・」
Meg
"Again?...."

「・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・つまり、きみたちもクリスタルバレーに向かっているってわけなんだな。」
Nash
"....................So in other words, you guys are headed for Crystal Valley too."



メグ
「そうなんです。ちょっと近道しようと思ったんですけどちょっぴり道に迷っちゃって困ってたんですよ。ほんと、からくり丸ったら、かーんじんな時に役に立たないんだから・・・」
Meg
"That's right. I was thinking of taking a little shortcut, but it seems we got a little lost instead. Really, Gadget, you're supposed to be useful at times like this..."

「めぐガ、チョウセイシテカラ、ナンダカ、チョウシガ、ワルイノデス」
Gadget
"MEG, THAT STATEMENT SOMEHOW SEEMS FOREBODING."

ナッシュ
「わっ！また！！いったい、どう言う造りになっているんだ？」
Nash
"Aah! Again!! Where the hell is that voice coming from?"

ナッシュ
「うわっ！タルがしゃべった！！！」
Nash
"Gahh! The barrel spoke!!!"

「シツレイナ！！」
Gadget
"HOW RUDE!!"

ナッシュ
「なんだ、こいつは？」
Nash
"What is this thing?"



メグ
「すごいでしょう！！からくり丸は、ジュッポおじさんが作ってくれたんだよ！！ジュッポおじさんはね、とってもすごいからくり師なの！！」
Meg
"Amazing isn't it!! Uncle Juppo made Gadget for me!! He's the greatest trickster ever!!"



ミリー
「メグちゃんは、そのジュッポおじさんにあいにいくんだよね！」
Millie
"Meg here's going to go meet her Uncle Juppo, you know!"



メグ
「うん、多分ジュッポおじさんはクリスタルバレーの『一つの神殿』へ向かったんだと思うんだよね。あそこには、いろんな知識があるからきっと役に立つことでいっぱいなんだよ。」
Meg
"Yeah, I think he might be headed for the One Temple. There's all sorts of useful information available there, you know."

『からくり師』か・・・南方由来の技術者らしいと聞いてたが本当にいたとはな。それにしても不思議な物を作る。ハルモニア北部のシンダル遺跡で発掘された鉄巨人みたいな仕組みなのか？
"Trickster" huh...Sounds like he's actually some sort of engineer from the south. At any rate he did make this weird metal-man thing. Maybe he discovered it in the Sindar ruins up north in Harmonia?

ナッシュ
「なるほど。それで、クリスタルバレーに向かってるってわけか。」
Nash
"I see. Then, that's why you're headed to Crystal Valley."

ミリー
「ミリーはねぇ！クリスタルバレーにいってみたいの！！」
Millie
"Millie wants to go see Crystal Valley!!"

ナッシュ
「いや・・・それはさっき聞いたから・・・・」
Nash
"Er...you already told me that...."

ミリー
「あ、そうか。うん、ミリーはねぇ、アップルちゃんにきいたきゅうでんをみてみたいんだぁ。ねぇ、ボナパルトぉ。」
Millie
"Oh, right. Yeah, Millie wants to see the palace I heard about from Apple. Right, Bonaparte?"

ボナパルト
「キュウウウウウ。」
Bonaparte
"Kyuuuuu."

ナッシュ
「だから、そ、その話は・・・・・・・それより、さっきから抱いてる・・・・えっと・・・・」
Nash
"T-that sound is.......but, you were holding it a while ago.... Err...."

ミリー
「あー、ボナパルトのことぉ？ボナパルトはねぇ、ミリーのおともだちなの。」
Millie
"Aah, you mean Bonaparte? Bonaparte is Millie's friend, you know."

ナッシュ
「いや、そう言うことじゃなくて・・・」
Nash
"No, that's not what I'm saying..."

ミリー
「ボナパルトにはねぇ、もりであったんだよぉ。あなのなかにおちてこまっていたからたすけてあげたの。それから、ずっとおともだちなんだよぉ。」
Millie
"Bonaparte and I met in the forest, you see. I saved him when he fell in a hole. From then on, we were friends forever."

ナッシュ
「だから・・・・・・・・・・・・」
Nash
"But............"



ミリー
「ほらみて！みて！みてー！こうやってねぇ・・・・・・ぷにぷにって、目をつっつくと、くすぐったそうにするんだよ。ほら！」
Millie
"Hey look! Look! Loook! Like this......I can squish him, and poke his eyes, and tickle him. See!"

ボナパルト
「キュゥゥゥゥゥ・・・・・・・・・・」
Bonaparte
"Kyuuuuu.........."

ナッシュ
「いや・・・・・それは、イヤがってるんじゃないのか？」
Nash
"Er.....that, doesn't it hate that?"



ふぅ・・・結局、無駄話に付き合わされて一時間近くも経ってしまったぞ。困ったな・・・・・こんな目立つ二人と一緒に行動していてはいつ何時ザジの刺客に見つかるかわかったもんじゃないし、第一、二人を巻き込んでしまったら・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・と言うより、ここは何処なんだ？話しながら歩いていたら、いつの間にか森深くに入って来てしまったみたいだな・・・・・・これは早々に二人と別れないと。
Sigh...in the end, it took nearly an hour for the talk to turn to banding together. It's kind of worrying..... First of all, joining forces with this conspicuous pair would leave me open to being discovered by Zaj’s assassins at any moment, and to drag bystanders into this mess.......................... Hold on, where in the world am I? While we were talking, we seem to have wandered into the thicket without my noticing...... I really need to get away from these two as soon as possible.

ナッシュ
「さて、どうやらおれたちの目的地は違うようだから、ここでお別れ・・・・・」
Nash
"Well, it looks like we've got different destinations in mind, so I'll be leaving you here....."



メグ
「そうだ！ナッシュさんもいっしょに行こうよ！！三人よればなんとかの知恵よ！うん！うん！」
Meg
"I know! You should come along with us!! Everybody knows three heads are better than one! Yeah! Yeah!"

ナッシュ
「え・・・・・・・・・・・・・」
Nash
"Uh............."



ミリー
「わーーーい、ボナパルトも、ナッシュさんのことすきだってぇ！ほらぁ！」
Millie
"Yaaaay, Bonaparte likes Mister Nash too! Look-!"



ナッシュ
「え・・・おい・・・・・ちょっと・・・・ごふっ・・・・・ぶほっ・・・・・・・・・」
Nash
"Er...hey.....wait....Gah.....urgh........."

ミリー
「ね、ほらほら、ボナパルトもよろこんでるよ。わーーーい！いっしょお！いっしょお！」
Millie
"Wow, look look, Bonaparte's welcoming you too. Yaaaaay! We're together! Together!"

ナッシュ
「一緒って・・・・・誰が・・・・・・・・」
Nash
"Together.....with who........"

ボナパルト
「キュウウウウウウウンンンンン！！！！！！」
Bonaparte
"Kyuuuuuuuunnnnn!!!!!!"

ナッシュ
「だから・・・おれは、違う方へ・・・・・」
Nash
"But...we're headed different directions....."

メグ
「またまたぁ。さっき、”きみたちも”って言ってたじゃない。ナッシュさんも、クリスタルバレーに向かうんでしょ。そんなに遠慮しなくてもいいんだよ。美少女二人がお供じゃ、はずかしい？？？」
Meg
"Not again. Just a little while ago, I'm pretty sure you said "You too." Mister Nash, you're also headed for Crystal Valley aren't you. You don't have to hide it. You're just embarrassed to be accompanying two pretty girls like us, aren't you???"

ナッシュ
「そ・・・・そうか・・・・・・・・まぁ、仕方ない・・・・・・・・・・・取りあえず、森に迷い込んでしまったみたいだから、暗くならないうちに抜け出さなくちゃな・・・・・・」
Nash
"I....uh........ Ahh well, seems there's no helping it...........Since it looks like we’re lost in this forest, for now we should just focus on trying to get out before it gets dark......"

結局、この二人と一緒に行くことになってしまったのか・・・・まいて逃げられないことはないんだが、またあの変な生き物をけしかけられてはたまったもんじゃないし、さすがに森の中に置き去りにするのも悪いからな・・・・・・・・・・
So I'm stuck with these two after all, huh....It's not that I can't get away from them but, aside from not wanting to get attacked by that weird animal again, I'd feel bad leaving them behind in this forest..........

ナッシュ
「・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・森を抜けるどころか、ますます奥に入って来ている気がするんだが・・・・・」
Nash
"...............Instead of getting out of this forest, I'm getting the feeling we're going farther and farther in....."

”大丈夫！まかせて！！”の言葉をうのみにして、メグの言うとおりに進んだことを、今さら悔やんでも、どうにもならないとは言え・・・・・
I regret swallowing Meg's "It's alright! Leave it to me!!" speech, but it's too late to do anything about it now.....



メグ
「おっかしぃなぁ・・・・ねぇ、ちゃんと調べたの、からくり丸？」
Meg
"That's odd....Hey, you investigated properly didn't you, Gadget?"



からくり丸
「オカシイナ・・・・エイセイガ、ズレテルノカナ？」
Gadget
"HOW STRANGE....MAYBE THE SATELLITE IS OUT OF ALIGNMENT?"

ナッシュ
「何が原因かは分からないけど、少しずつ方向感覚が狂わされていたみたいだな・・・・」
Nash
"I have no idea what's causing it, but it's like my sense of direction is getting more and more out of whack...."



ミリー
「あっ・・・・」
Millie
"Ahh...."

ナッシュ
「これは自然の迷路とは思えない・・・・」
Nash
"This maze is just unnatural...."

ミリー
「あーーーーーーーっ！」
Millie
"Aaaaaaaah!"



メグ
「・・・・・・・からくり丸、なにあれ？」
Meg
".......Gadget, what is that?"

「アノー・・・・・・トリアエズアブナイデスヨ、なっしゅサン。」
Gadget
"UMM......IT IS DANGEROUS AT THE MOMENT, MISTER NASH."

ナッシュ
「え？」
Nash
"Huh?"

「あれ？あれ？あれ？あれ？あれれ？？？？」

ナッシュ

Nash
"Nnaaaaahhh!!!??"

「あれれ？？？？？パーティは？？？？ごちそうは？？？？」
Viki
"Whaa????? What happened to the party???? And the feast????"

メグ
「あーーーーっ！！ビッキーちゃん！！！！」
Meg
"Aaaaah!! Viki!!!!"

ミリー
「ビッキーちゃんだぁ！！！！！」
Millie
"It's Vikii!!!!!"

ナッシュ
「な・・・・・なんだぁ？？？？？？」
Nash
"W.....whaat??????"



ビッキー
「あれれれ？？？？パーティはどこ？？？？？？」
Viki
"Huuuh???? Where'd the party go??????"

ナッシュ
「パーティって・・・・・・・・・」
Nash
"Party.........?"



メグ
「ビッキーちゃーーーん！！！みんな心配してたんだよーーーー！！！！どっかに行っちゃうんだもんーーー！！！！」
Meg
"Vikiiii!!! Everybody was worried about yooouuu!!!! You just disappeared somewheeere!!!!"



ミリー
「ほんとうだよぉ。おりょうりおいしかったのにねぇ。ねぇ、ボナパルト。」
Millie
"It's true you know. The food was delicious. Isn't that right, Bonaparte."



ビッキー
「あれー？パーティは？？あれれ？？？？」
Viki
"What-? What happened to the party? Huuh????"

ナッシュ
「・・・・・・・なあ、取りあえず、そこから、どいてくれないかな？・・・・・」
Nash
".......Hey, for now, do you think you could get off me.....?"

ビッキー
「あれれれれ？？？？？？？？」
Viki
"Huuuuh????????"



それからしばらく続いた三人娘の会話から推測するに、この、突然どこからか落ちて来たビッキーと言う名の少女は、転移系魔法の使い手で、何故かは本人にも不明らしいのだが、突然メグたちの前からいなくなって、今まで消息不明だったらしい。そして、ひとしきり再会を喜び合った後、おれたちが森に迷い込んでこまっている現状をビッキーに理解してもらうのに、辺りがうす暗くなり始めるまでの時間を要した・・・・・・・・・・・・
As far as I can make out from their conversation, the girl who'd suddenly fallen on me from out of nowhere is a teleporting magician named Viki, who for some reason has no idea what she's doing despite her profession, and had disappeared some time ago before showing up in front of the other two just now. Well, after their happy reunion, we'll explain to Viki how we're lost in the forest, and how important it is that we get out of here and into some place that isn't quite so dark and foreboding............



ビッキー
「なんだー。そーゆーことなら、わたしにおまかせだよー」
Viki
"So that's how it is. If that's the case, just leave it to me~!"



メグ
「あ、ビッキーちゃん、それ名案だね。」
Meg
"Oh, Viki, you're a genius!"



ミリー
「おまかせ、おまかせーーーーー」
Millie
"Leave it to you, leave it to you~~~~~"

ナッシュ
「・・・・・・・・・・はい？」
Nash
"..........Huh?"



ビッキー
「じゃー、行くよー」
Viki
"Then, let's go~!"

「ピピッ。ジクウカンニ、イジョウナシンドウヲ、カンチ。ナオモ、ゾウダイチュウ。」
Gadget
"BEEEP. SPACE-TIME TRAVEL, TRANSFERENCE SHOCK, ALL SYSTEMS GO. FURTHERMORE, SPACE IS INCREASING."

ナッシュ
「なにがっ！？」
Nash
"What the heck!?"



ビッキー
「ええーーーーーーーーーーい！！」
Viki
"Let's gooooo!!"

ビッキーのかけ声を合図に辺りが光につつまれ、何か大きな力で身体が浮き上がるのを感じた。そして・・・・・・・

As if signalled by Viki’s enthusiastic shout, we're engulfed in a bright light that feels as though my body's being lifted by some great force. And then.......
I black out........
