Suikogaiden 2 Chapter 3 - Stray Dragon

既に村に舞い降りていた黒竜は、宿屋の家畜小屋を荒らしていた。村人たちは、すでに逃げたらしく武器をもった村の自警団らしき若者が何人かいるだけだった。
The black dragon had already landed in the village, destroying the inn's barn. Too late, the youths of the village's vigilante corps were running with weapons in hand.



宿屋の主人
「くそっ！！！！そ、そいつを食われたらうちの宿は・・・・・・・・・」
Innkeeper
"Damn it!!!! I-if that thing comes closer then our inn will........."

ナッシュ
「おい、おっさん。あぶないって・・・そんな斧一つでどうするつもりだ。」
Nash
"Hey, mister. It's dangerous...what exactly are you planning to do with that axe."

宿屋の主人
「おお、あんた！たしか、うちの宿に泊まってた奴だな！たのむ！あいつを追い払ってくれ！！！！」
Innkeeper
"Oh, you! Yeah, you're the fellow staying at our inn aren't you! Please! Help me get rid of that guy!!!!"

ナッシュ
「ちょ、ちょっと・・・・・・・・・」
Nash
"W-wait........."

宿屋の主人
「たのむ！！うまくいったら、あんたの宿代はタダでいいから！！」
Innkeeper
"I'm begging you!! If it works out, you can stay at the inn for free!!"

ナッシュ
「そりゃ、ありがたいが・・・・」
Nash
"I'd be really grateful for that, but...."



ハンフリー
「・・・・・・・・・どいていろ・・・・」
Humphrey
".........Out of the way...."



大剣を抜いたハンフリーが駆け出す。仕方がない、おれも加勢することにしよう。どこまで通じるかわからんが、家畜小屋は良いとして、おれの荷物がおいてある宿までつぶされては、かなわない。
Humphrey unsheathes his longsword and breaks into a run. It can't be helped, I'll lend a hand too. I'm not sure how far we're going, but enough about the barn, the stuff I left in the inn is gonna get crushed, it's no match for that thing.



宿屋の主人
「もう許さんぞ！！！この暴れ竜め！！！！」
Innkeeper
"You're not getting away!!! You damned dragon!!!!"

叫ぶが早いか、宿屋の主人が竜に向かって走り出した。無茶だ！！
With that hasty shout, the innkeeper ran right in the direction of the dragon. This is ridiculous!!



黒竜の雄叫びが周囲の空気を振るわせる。黒竜は大きく首を後ろにそらして、大きく息を吸い込んでいた。やつは炎を吐くのか？
The black dragon's roar shakes the air around it. It bends its neck far back, taking in a deep breath. Is the thing gonna spit fire?



黒竜が沈痛な悲鳴を上げた。いつの間にかハンフリーが竜の背後に回り、大剣で斬りつけていた。取りあえずブレスは防げたが・・・・おれは、自警団らしき連中に声をかけた。
The black dragon let out a scream of pain. Without my noticing, Humphrey had circled behind it, slicing at it with his longsword. Then, while Humphrey defended....I called out for those vigilante corps guys.

ナッシュ
「おい！！おまえら！！！弓と槍をもっている奴以外は、どこかに隠れておけ！！！おっさん、あんたもな！足手まといだ！！！！！！！」
Nash
"Hey!! You!!! Aside from the ones with bows and spears, all of you go hide somewhere!!! Mister, you too! You're getting in the way!!!!!!!"



宿屋の主人
「わ、わかった！！この場は、あんたたちに任せた！！！」
Innkeeper
"G-got it!! I'm leaving this place to you two!!!"



宿屋の主人と、棍棒やら、短剣なんかを持ったやつらをさがらせる。
The innkeeper and the men carrying clubs, short swords, and things retreat.

ナッシュ
「弓を持った者は、援護してくれ！！威嚇でいいからな！その代わり、おれたちに当てないでくれよ！！」
Nash
"Archers, take cover!! Intimidation's fine! But let's do that without getting hit!!"



若者
「わかりました！！！」
Youth
"Understood!!!"



ナッシュ
「槍を持っている奴は、すきを突いて背後からしかけるんだ！！尻尾には気をつけろよ！！！！それから・・・・ちょっと貸せ！！」
Nash
"Spearmen, take this chance to start stabbing its back!! Watch out for its tail!!!! From there....it's easy going!!"



若者
「はい！！！！」
Youth
"Right!!!!"



若者の一人から槍を奪い取ると、黒竜にむかって走った。
I grab a spear from one of the youths, and run towards the black dragon.

ナッシュ
「行くぞっ！！！！！」
Nash
"Let's go-!!!!!"



おれとハンフリー、そして自警団の若者たちとで、それぞれ遠巻きに距離を取って黒竜を取り囲んで攻撃する。
Humphrey, the vigilante corps, and I each take our places surrounding the black dragon for an all-around offensive strike.

黒竜の体は思っていたよりもかたい。見たところ、まだ生まれて間も無いのだろうが鱗に包まれた身体にはハンフリーでさえ、三度太刀を浴びせてやっと一つ傷を作れる程度だ。
The black dragon's body is harder than I expected. From the looks of things it's been covered from head to tail in scales since before it was even born, since even Humphrey, with his sword three times the size of a normal weapon, could barely make a scratch after attacking it at length.



ナッシュ
「くそっ・・・・なんて、硬さだ！！！」
Nash
"Damn....this thing's harder than a rock!!!"



黒竜は突然身体をねじり、背後の若者めがけて、尻尾をふるった。
The black dragon suddenly twists its body, swinging its tail at the youth behind it.



若者
「うぁぁぁっ！！！」
Youth
"Uaaah!!!"



ナッシュ
「くそっ！！！」
Nash
"Damn it!!!"

若者は地面に倒れ込んだ。動かなくなった若者に、黒竜が体を向ける。背後からハンフリーが斬りかかろうとしたが、尻尾を激しく振るうので近づくことができない。黒竜は、倒れた若者目がけて突進した。
The youth collapsed on the ground. With him immobilized, the black dragon began to turn. Humphrey attempted to keep slashing at it from behind, but the violently thrashing tail kept him from approaching.



間に合わない！！そう思った瞬間、倒れた若者の前に立ちはだかる一人の女性の姿が現れた。
Too late!! Just as the thought came up, a solitary female figure appeared before the fallen youth.



オウラン
「おまえに恨みはないけど、これ以上、あばれて宿まで壊されるようだと、雇い主に迷惑がかかるんでね。」
Oulan
"No hard feelings but, if you keep going like this, your raging's gonna destroy the inn, and that'd cause a lot of trouble for my employer."

ナッシュ
「無茶だ！！やめろ！！！！！」
「誰だっ！？」
Nash
> "That's idiotic!! Stop!!!!!"
> "Who're you-!?"

オウラン
「心配ご無用！！！」
Oulan
"Don't worry!!!"
------
オウラン
「村を守るんだろう？だったら、手を貸すさ！！」
Oulan
"You're protecting the village aren't you? So lend me a hand!!"

オウラン
「オラァァァァァァァァァ！！！！！」
Oulan
"ORAaaaaaaaaa!!!!!"

拳が次々と黒竜の身体に叩きこまれる。その攻撃に面食らったのか、黒竜はなすがままになっている。
Her fists cover the black dragon's body in a succession of strikes. Confused by the attack, it quickly falls to her mercy.

オウラン
「くらいな！！！！！奥義！！！乱れ竜！！！！！！！！！！！！！」
Oulan
"How d'you like that!!!!! Mysterious!!! Disturbed dragon!!!!!!!!!!!!!"



オウラン
「とどめ！！！！！！！」
Oulan
"And the finishing blow!!!!!!!"



オウラン
「さぁ、まだ来るかい？」
Oulan
"Come on, are you done already?"

彼女の攻撃におどろいた黒竜は、翼を広げて、空に舞い上がり、そのまま消えて行った。
Surprised by her attack, the black dragon spread its wings, soaring up into the sky, and quickly disappeared.



村人たち
「おおおおおおおお！！！！やったぞ！！！竜を追い払った！！！」
Villagers
"Woooooah!!!! You did it!!! You routed the dragon!!!"

いつの間にか戻って来た村人たちが歓声をあげていた。
The villagers who'd returned without my noticing raised a cheer.

ナッシュ
「なんとか・・・・・・なったな・・・・・・・」
Nash
"That was......really something......."



ハンフリー
「・・・・・・・・・・・あの竜・・・」
Humphrey
"...........That dragon..."



ナッシュ
「・・・・・・・・・・それにしても、あんた・・・・・・・竜相手に正面から素手で戦おうなんて・・・・・」
Nash
"..........At any rate, you.......to face a dragon in battle bare-handed....."

そう言いながら、女格闘家のいた場所を振り返ったが、彼女は、もうそこにはいなかった。
As I said those words, I turned to look at the spot where the female fighter was standing, but she was already gone.
