Suikogaiden 2 Chapter 3 - Stray Dragon

からくも黒竜を追い払ったおれたちは倒れた若者を宿屋の主人バッツの宿に担ぎ込んだ。
Having barely succeeded in driving away the black dragon, we then carried the collapsed youths to Innkeeper Butz's inn.



バッツ
「いやー、よくやってくれた！あの暴れ竜を追い払っちまうなんて、あんたら大したもんだよ！！」
Butz
"Well, come by again! Seeing how you drove off that dragon, you guys are a really big deal!!"



ハンフリー
「・・・・・・・・・・・」
Humphrey
"..........."

バッツ
「あの女格闘家も凄かったなぁ！！ありゃ誰だ？あんたらの知り合いかい？」
Butz
"That fighter gal was amazing too!! Who was she? Somebody you know?"

ナッシュ
「・・・・・・さぁ、知らないね。それよりもケガ人を見てやってくれ。」
Nash
"......Nope, don't know her. But if she's injured I'll see she stops by."

バッツ
「おう、まかせときな！！」
Butz
"Alright, I'll leave that to you!!"



バッツが指示を出して、怪我人の手当てをさせている間に、おれとハンフリーは食堂で一息ついていた。見ていると村人たちが次々と集まって来る。
While Butz belted out orders, attending to all the injured, Humphrey and I rested in the dining hall. We watched as the villagers came in and gathered together one by one.

どうもバッツはこの村のリーダー的な存在のようだ。村人たちは、口々に竜への怒りやそれを追い払えたことの喜びを口にしていた。
It seems a lot like Butz is the leader of this village. As for the villagers, all of them had the same angry words for the dragon and congratulations at its having been chased away.

？？？？
「あの・・・・・・こちらにハンフリーさんて剣士が来ていませんか？」
????
"Um......is there a swordsman named Sir Humphrey here?"



ハンフリー
「！！！！！」
Humphrey
"!!!!!"



メイド
「キャァァァァァ！！竜よ！！竜よ！！誰か！！！！」
Maid
"KYAAAAAA!! Dragon!! Dragon!! Somebody help!!!!"



一同の視線が、入口に立つ少年に注がれた。正確には、遠慮がちに立つ少年がその胸に抱く白竜にだ。
Everyone's gazes were fixed on the young boy standing in the entrance. Or to be more precise, the white dragon which the shy kid was hugging to his chest.



ハンフリー
「・・・・・・・なぜ来た？・・・・」
Humphrey
".......Why did you come here?...."

フッチ
「ごめんなさい・・・・・ぼく、心配で・・・・・・・・・・・」
Futch
"I'm sorry..... I was worried, so..........."

村人たちが殺気立つ。無理もない。自分たちの仇である竜を抱いた少年が、目の前に現れたのだから。
The villagers are looking pretty bloodthirsty. Not surprising. A dragon, our mortal enemy, has appeared in front of our eyes, being carried in the arms of a little boy.



村人
「な、なんだおまえは！！その竜は、本物か！！？？」
Villager
"W-what are you!! Is that a real dragon!!??"



フッチ
「ブライトのことなら、心配ありません。人を襲ったりは・・・・・・・」
Futch
"You don't have to worry about Bright. He won't attack......."



村人
「そんな言葉が信用できるか！！」
Villager
"How can we trust those words!!"

村人
「そうとも！！！どうやらまだそいつは子供みたいじゃねぇか！！今ここで・・・・・・・」
Villager
"Hey guys!!! It looks like it's just a baby!! So right now......."

村人
「そうだそうだ、敵討ちだ！！！！！！！！」
Villager
"Yeah yeah, revenge!!!!!!!!"

ナッシュ
「敵討ち？」
Nash
"Revenge?"

村人
「あぁ、そうさ。裏山に竜の巣があるって噂でな、退治に行った奴が、何人も帰って来てねぇのさ！！」
Villager
"Yeah, that's right. There were rumors of a dragon nest up in the hills behind the village, so some guys went to exterminate them, but nobody came back!!"



フッチ
「そんな、退治なんて・・・・・・」
Futch
"But to exterminate, how could you do such a thing......"



村人
「なんだぁ？そりゃ、どう言う意味だ？？？？？？」
Villager
"Whaat? Seriously, do you know what you're saying??????"



フッチ
「それは・・・・・・・・・・・・」
Futch
"That's............"

？？？？
「はぁはぁはぁはぁ・・・・だ、誰か・・・・・・・・・・・・」
????
"Haa haa haa haa.... S-somebody............"



シーナ
「ジョナが・・・・・ジョナがぁ・・・・・・・」
Sheena
"Jonah is..... Jonah's......."



バッツ
「な！なんだおまえ！？？ジョナがどうした！！！！」
Butz
"Wha! What are you talking about!?? What happened to Jonah!!!!"

シーナ
「ジョナが・・・・と、突然、消えてしまって・・・・・はぁはぁはぁ・・・」
Sheena
"Jonah is....s-she just, disappeared..... Haa haa haa..."

バッツ
「なんだとぉぉぉぉぉぉぉぉ！！おい、詳しく聞かせろ！！！」
Butz
"Whaaaaaaaatt!! Hey, tell me everything!!!"

シーナ
「はぁはぁ・・・くそっ・・・・・昼過ぎにジョナを誘って、東の山に遠乗りに行って・・・・山を登ってたら・・・・」
Sheena
"Haa haa...shit..... I invited her out this afternoon, for a long walk in the east mountain.... When we were climbing the mountain...."

バッツ
「おい！東の山っていやあ、竜が住む山じゃないかっ！！！なんだって、そんなところに！！！！」
Butz
"Hey! What do you mean the east mountain, isn't that where the dragon lives!!! What were you thinking, going there!!!!"

シーナ
「洞窟の奥から吠える声が聞こえたと思ったら、おれたちの周りに、光の球みたいなものが現れて・・・・・・それがジョナの周りに集まった途端、パッと消えちまったんだ・・・・・・」
Sheena
"We heard a roaring sound coming from inside the cave, and then all around us, these glowing balls of light appeared...... They all gathered around Jonah, and she disappeared in a flash......"

バッツ
「ぐぬううううっっっっ！！！！！！！」
Butz
"Gunrrrrgggh!!!!!!!"

？？？？
「まったく、どこをほっつき歩いているかと思っていたら・・・・・・・」
????
"How troublesome, if you're just going to stand around and think about it......."



バッツ
「だ、誰だ！？」
Butz
"W-who's there!?"



オウラン
「シーナ、いいかげんこっちも面倒見きれないよ。しかし・・・・大の男がガン首そろえて、なにをしているかと思えば、グチの言い合いかい？あたしの雇い主が迷惑してるんで、少し静かにしてもらえないかねぇ。だいたい、悪さをしているのはその白い竜じゃなくて、山にいる黒い竜なんだろう？」
Oulan
"Sheena, your irresponsibility in taking care of that girl is really too much. But....grown men having an orderly meeting, thinking instead of doing anything, coming together just for idle complaints? My boss may be an annoyance, but he doesn't take things lying down. Most of all, the mischief maker isn't that white dragon, it's the black dragon in the mountain isn't it?"

一同がしんと静まりかえる。村人たちは返す言葉を失っているようだ。
Everyone's died down to total silence. The villagers seem to have lost the capacity to speak.



バッツ
「あんたは、さっきの・・・・」
Butz
"You're, from earlier...."

オウラン
「そんなに、困ってるならその竜退治をこのあたし、オウランが引き受けてやろうかい？雇い主には許可をとったんでね、値段次第じゃ請け負うよ。」
Oulan
"So, if it's troubling you then I, Oulan will take over the dragon extermination alright? With the boss's permission, this'll be a payment-free contract."

バッツ
「えぇ、ほ、本当か？しかし、いくらなんでもあんた一人じゃ？」
Butz
"Huh, r-really? But, whatever you're saying, are you really going alone?"

オウラン
「それは心配ないって。おい、ハンフリー！あんたは当然行くだろう？」
Oulan
"Don't worry about that. Hey, Humphrey! You're definitely going aren't you?"

ハンフリー
「あぁ・・・・・・・・・・・」
Humphrey
"Yeah..........."

オウラン
「それから・・・・・・・・・・」
Oulan
"And then.........."



オウランが、ここまで来て、へたりこんでいる青年に近づく。
Oulan, coming closer, approaches the young man who's sunk down to the floor.



オウラン
「シーナ。わかってると思うけど、あんたも行くんだよ！」
Oulan
"Sheena. I know what you're thinking but, you're going too!"



シーナ
「え・・・えぇぇぇぇ、お、おれもぉ？？？」
Sheena
"W...whaaaat, m-me tooo???"

オウラン
「あたりまえだろ、宿屋の娘さんをたすけに行くんだ。あんたが、行かないでどうする？」
Oulan
"I'd think it's obvious, that you should rescue the lady of the inn. What, aren't you going after all?"

シーナ
「は、はい・・・・・・・・ちぇっ・・・・・最初はおれが雇い主だったのに・・・今は使われる方かよ・・・・・・・」
Sheena
"O-okay........ Damn.....I thought I was supposed to be your boss... Now it's more like you're using me......."

オウラン
「なんだってぇ？財布を落とすあんたが悪いんだろう？」
Oulan
"Whaaat? Isn't it bad you dropped your wallet?"

シーナ
「は、はい・・・・・・・・」
Sheena
"Y-yeah........"



オウラン
「それから・・・そこの金髪の兄さん、ずいぶんと、テキパキ指示を出していたし腕も立ちそうだ。行くだろう？」
Oulan
"And then...that blonde guy over there, you're really good at issuing orders on the fly. You going?"

ナッシュ
「お、おれ？？？」
Nash
"M-me???"

ナッシュ
「そうだな・・・・・・・・」
「おれは、やめとくよ。」
Nash
> "That's right........" (Popularity +1)
> "I'm not going." (Secret +1)

おれの返事を待たず、オウランが、おれの首に腕をまわして来た。
I ready my reply, but before I can spit it out Oulan's already started twisting my arm.

オウラン
「おう、あんた良い男だね。見知らぬ村のたのみを聞いて、竜退治に行く。吟遊詩人の詩になるような話さ。」
Oulan
"Hey, you're a pretty handsome guy. Do this unknown village a favor, go exterminate a dragon. You'll go down in the songbooks or something."

ナッシュ
「え、いや・・・」
Nash
"Er, well..."

オウラン
「大丈夫だって、分け前はちゃんと回すさ。あんた、路銀が足りないんだろう。」
Oulan
"It'll be fine, you'll get a full share of the reward. You're lacking in travel money, aren't you."

ナッシュ
「なんで・・・・・・・」
Nash
"Why......."

オウラン
「なーーに、交易所で何やら買取り値にしつこく文句をつけてた男を見かけただけさ。まったく、『光る玉』なんか、こんなところで売れないぜ。」
Oulan
"Whaat, I just saw a guy complaining about the prices at the trading post is all. Seriously, things like crystal balls aren't going to sell in this place."

おれの返事を待たずに、オウランが、おれの首に腕をまわして、耳元にささやいた。
I ready my reply, but before I can spit it out Oulan's already whispering in my ear.

オウラン
「何言ってるんだい、あんた路銀がとぼしいんだろう？交易所で、何を換金してたんだい？分け前ははずむよ。」
Oulan
"What d'you say, you're strapped for cash right now aren't you? You wanted to make some money at the trading post right? I'll treat you to a share of the reward."

ナッシュ
「しかし・・・・・・・」
Nash
"But......."

オウラン
「わかってるって、あんたの様子じゃあ金持ちの物見遊山には見えないぜ。」
Oulan
"I got it already, you don't exactly look like a rich person on a sightseeing trip y'know."

ナッシュ
「そりゃ、そうだが・・・・・・・」
Nash
"That's, you're right but......."

オウランがやっとおれの頭を解放してくれた。
Oulan finally lets go of my head.



オウラン
「話はついたさ。これだけ頭数がいれば、なんとかなるだろうよ。」
Oulan
"Talk's over. If it's just this many people, I guess I'll manage somehow."

結局、いつの間にか竜退治の一行に参加することになったようだ・・・・まぁ、もう少しつきあってみるか・・・
In the end, I somehow became part of the dragon extermination group.... Well, it looks like I'll have company for a while longer...
